Yvonne Donoghue Biography
In May 1997 Martin Scorsese gave a lecture in Ardmore studios in Wicklow. Some of those in attendance were Ethan Coen, Bono, Jim Sheridan, Sir Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall. Lauren Bacall was the first portrait that Yvonne Donoghue had photographed of a major A-List Actress. Taking the time to ask the Hollywood icon for her portrait enabled Yvonne to capture a portrait that has stood the test of time and is still the most popular image of the collection today.
Based in Dublin, over the last twelve years as an independent freelance photographer attending many premieres and film events throughout Ireland, Yvonne has created an impressive collection of celebrity portraits including Colin Farrell, Bono, Bruce Willis, Kevin Spacey, Angelina Jolie, and two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
This collection was launched in 2005 by Film Director David Gleeson (The Frontline, Cowboys and Angels)
In aid of UNICEF.
During these years Yvonne Donoghue completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film School, producing many award winning short films, commercials, music videos and documentaries resulting in being shortlisted in many film festivals around Ireland, U.K, Italy, France, Spain, and The International Film Festival in Los Angeles in 2002. After college Yvonne continued working on funded short films, feature films and documentary's with artists Rasher and Graham Knuttel.
After gaining experience in portraiture Yvonne became interested in developing photographs that could narrate their own story, Yvonne’s unobtrusive qualities has helped her create some truly memorable black and white images of The Smithfield Markets, photographed in a bygone time Yvonne managed to capture some of Dublin’s youngest, most colourful and fearless characters before it was lost to the rejuvenation of Smithfield.
Some of the collection has since been acquired by The National Photographic Archive in Temple Bar, Dublin.
